HOUSTON, TEXAS.- The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston’s Perspectives series has presented some of the most pioneering exhibitions and scholarship in contemporary art over its 25-year history. In October 2004, the Museum will present a celebration of this long running and integral part of its program with a major exhibition. The project will, as well, document a quarter century of the institution’s unwavering dedication to the new and the now with a major publication and symposium.

Perspectives @ 25 will review the distinguished history of the series and its highly successful record of introducing diverse audiences to some of the most exciting art of today. A combination of vintage works in some cases, and recent works in others, by over 70 artists represented in the series will be accompanied by historical material such as photographs and documentation related to past exhibitions in the series. This gathering will bring to life the record of innovation and prescience the series has enjoyed. A review for long-time Museum visitors and an introduction to the series’ achievement s for new audiences, the exhibition will be accompanied by a major publication containing essays by Museum staff past and present. It will also contain a complete history of the series, photographs of the exhibitions presented, and discussion of the city’s interest in and support for contemporary art. As a document, the publication will add to the growing scholarly history of art in Houston and of the history of the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.
