Bonhams announces the spring sale of Modern Decorative Art + Design sale

NEW YORK, NY.- Bonhams announces the spring sale of Modern Decorative Art + Design sale on June 7, which includes an extensive range of 145 rare and bold works by some of the most iconic names of design. The artists featured include François-Xavier Lalanne, Philippe Hiquily, Maria Pergay, Gino Sarfatti, Paul T. Frankl, Paolo Venini, amongst many others.

Highlighting the sale is François-Xavier Lalanne’s Tortue Topiaire (estimate: $80,000-120,000). Created in 1987, this patinated copper tortoise sports a whimsical topiary shell. It has been in the same French private collection ever since it was acquired direct from Les Lalanne in the late 1980s.

Also featured is superbly crafted brass fountain, Fountaine Mobile II, 1979, by French modernist sculptor and designer, Philippe Hiquily (1925-2013) (estimate: $100,000-150,0000). Other highlights include a rare Dame Murrine Vase, circa 1955 by renowned Murano glass designer, Paolo Venini (1895 – 1959) (estimate: $30,000-50,000); a notable 1968-9 Daybed by Maria Pergay (born 1930), known for her innovative use of stainless steel (estimate: $70,000-90,000); a Rare Table Lamp by Gino Sarfatti, from a private collection of lighting from the family of Gino Sarfatti (estimate: $15,000-20,000); and a Unique Industry/Perished Dressoir by Studio Job (founded 1998), the only example that combines inlaid motifs from both, the 'Perished' and 'Industry' series (estimate: $40,000-60,000).

• Gino Sarfatti (1912-1985), Rare Table Lamp, 1940. Estimate: $15,000-20,000

• Giovanni Gariboldi (1908-1971), Pair of Rare Lounge Chairs, circa 1950. Estimate: $15,000-25,000

CONTEMPORARY DESIGN

• Yayoi Kusama (born 1929), Golden Spirit, 2005. Estimate: $20,000-30,000

• Studio Job (Founded 1998), Unique Industry/Perished Dressoir, 2006. Estimate: $40,000-60,000

AMERICAN LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY

• Tiffany & Co. (Founded 1837), Water Pitcher, circa 1880. Estimate: $40,000-60,000

• Paul T. Frankl (1886-1958), Pair of Skyscraper Bookcases, circa 1930. Estimate: $50,000-80,000

• Peter Hansen (1880-1947), Rare Mantel Clock, circa 1910. Estimate: $8,000-12,000
