NEW YORK, NY.- Bonhams announces the spring sale of Modern Decorative Art + Design sale on June 7, which includes an extensive range of 145 rare and bold works by some of the most iconic names of design. The artists featured include François-Xavier Lalanne, Philippe Hiquily, Maria Pergay, Gino Sarfatti, Paul T. Frankl, Paolo Venini, amongst many others.
Highlighting the sale is François-Xavier Lalannes Tortue Topiaire (estimate: $80,000-120,000). Created in 1987, this patinated copper tortoise sports a whimsical topiary shell. It has been in the same French private collection ever since it was acquired direct from Les Lalanne in the late 1980s.
Also featured is superbly crafted brass fountain, Fountaine Mobile II, 1979, by French modernist sculptor and designer, Philippe Hiquily (1925-2013) (estimate: $100,000-150,0000). Other highlights include a rare Dame Murrine Vase, circa 1955 by renowned Murano glass designer, Paolo Venini (1895 1959) (estimate: $30,000-50,000); a notable 1968-9 Daybed by Maria Pergay (born 1930), known for her innovative use of stainless steel (estimate: $70,000-90,000); a Rare Table Lamp by Gino Sarfatti, from a private collection of lighting from the family of Gino Sarfatti (estimate: $15,000-20,000); and a Unique Industry/Perished Dressoir by Studio Job (founded 1998), the only example that combines inlaid motifs from both, the 'Perished' and 'Industry' series (estimate: $40,000-60,000).
