MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA.- The Wolfsonian–Florida International University announces the launching of pageatatime.org, the new website for Page at a Time, an innovative, interdisciplinary arts-education program created in 1996 by The Wolfsonian in collaboration with Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Page at a Time encourages students to consider conflict—be it social, military, political, economic, or the discord produced by change—and find a resolution, using the book as a forum and also as the proving ground.
The online version of Page at a Time (PAT) is designed for fifth- and sixth-grade classroom and art teachers interested in working together on an interdisciplinary, object-based learning experience. The website allows teachers to access the curriculum online and offers teachers from other cities the opportunity to use the curriculum as a model to be adapted to their own classroom and museum environments. It is divided into four sections: About PAT, Lesson Plans, Gallery, and Resources. The PAT online gallery contains images of books from The Wolfsonian renowned library collection of over 45,000 items. Selected books from the collection are used to introduce students to unique book forms that are inspiration for the books the students then create. The gallery is also a showcase for images of a selection of books created by students of Miami-Dade County Public Schools who participated in PAT since its inception in 1996. The PAT classroom resources include images and their captions, lesson plans, a glossary of book-related terms, and suggested books for students to read centered on conflict and resolution.
