J. Paul Getty Trust Board of Trustees elects Dr. David L. Lee as Chair
Dr. David L. Lee has served on the Board since 2009; he begins his four-year term as chair on July 1.

LOS ANGELES, CA.- The Board of Trustees of the J. Paul Getty Trust today announced it has elected Dr. David L. Lee as its next chair of the Board.

“We are delighted that Dr. Lee will lead the Getty Board of Trustees as we embark on many exciting initiatives,” said Getty President James Cuno. “Dr. Lee’s involvement with the international community, his experience in higher education and philanthropy, and his strong financial acumen has served the Getty well. We look forward to his leadership.”

Lee was appointed to the Getty Board of Trustees in 2009. Lee will serve a four-year term as chair of the 15-member group that includes leaders in art, education, and business who volunteer their time and expertise on behalf of the Getty.

“Through its extensive research, conservation, exhibition and education programs, the Getty’s work has made a powerful impact not only on the Los Angeles region, but around the world,” Lee said. “I am honored to be part of such a generous, inspiring organization that makes a lasting difference and is a source of great pride for our community.”

Dr. Lee is a co-founder and managing general partner of Clarity Partners, a private equity firm that invests in communications, media, and related technology companies.

He is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Caltech and also chairs the Board of Overseers of the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. The Lee Family Foundation supports higher education, and has provided grants to establish centers for advanced networking at Caltech and the National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan.

Dr. Lee succeeds Maria Hummer-Tuttle, whose tenure as the Chair of the Getty Board of Trustees began in 2015 and was marked by the second Pacific Standard Time initiative, highlighting Latino and Latin-American art. Ms. Hummer-Tuttle also oversaw the growth of the annual Getty Medal Dinner, and the expansion of the Getty’s Development efforts, with the establishment of the Patron Program, the J. Paul Getty Founder’s Society, and other opportunities to support the work of the Getty worldwide.

Dr. Lee lives with his wife Ellen, who is an artist, and their family in San Marino, California.
