BORDEAUX.- Nicolas Florian, Mayor of Bordeaux, has appointed Sandra Patron as head of the CAPC Musée d’art contemporain. The current director of the Sérignan regional Museum of Contemporary Art, since 2014, will take up her post on September the 16th.

Since 2018, the DGAC (general direction of the cultural affairs) has led a substantive work to reaffirm the priorities of the CAPC, a venue for contemporary art creation, whose attendance is up to 18% for one year. Those priorities are :

• to hinge around a vision of the world and a critical thinking reflecting our time and period in which the programmes should fall within ;

• to assert the presence of living artists at the center of the project and develop the in situ creations in the museum’s main hall ;

• to program various typologies of exhibitions reviewing our time, monographic or group exhibitions, offering harmonious heterogeneity along with a cultural program so as to reach new publics;

• to pursue the decompartmentalised approach of the creation, which goes beyond the field of visual arts and has been part of the CAPC DNA since it was founded ;

• to support the young and emerging creation.

Since September 2014, Sandra Patron is head of the Mrac Occitanie where she has been conducting an ambitious expansion project, including new exhibition spaces, new reserves and a large depot from the Cnap (centre national des arts plastiques). As head of the museum, she has supported the work of Lubaina Himid, Simon Starling, Lourdes Castro, Bruno Peinado, Pierre Leguillon, Ulla Von Brandenburg or Pierre Leguillon. From 2013 to 2016, she was a member of the Cnap acquisition commission. In 2018, she was a member of the selection committee for the French Pavilion of the Venice Biennale 2019 (Artist : Laure Prouvost). Sandra Patron is Chevalier des arts et des lettres, from the french governement.
