HONG KONG.- Bonhams, the international auction house, announced the appointment of Wang Zineng as Head of Modern & Contemporary Art, Asia, effective from 1 September 2019.

Based in Hong Kong, Mr. Wang will lead Bonhams’ auction and private sales of the category across Asia. He will also spearhead business and client development along with his regional team of specialists, as well as working with the wider global team on all sales and projects.

Ralph Taylor, Bonhams’ Global Head of Post-War & Contemporary Art, remarked: “We are thrilled to have Zineng joining us as Head of Modern & Contemporary Art, Asia. His appointment – together with Muys Snijders’ recent appointment as Head of Post-War & Contemporary Art, America; and London-based Giacomo Balsamo as International Director of Post-War & Contemporary Art – completes the relaunch of Bonhams’ global team for the category. We look forward to presenting more exciting and tightly curated sales and projects under this global approach, particularly with Zineng’s huge entrepreneurial and auction experience in such an important part of the worldwide marketplace as Asia.”

Edward Wilkinson, Executive Director of Bonhams Asia, said, “We welcome Zineng to Bonhams’ Asia team. He joins a strong and established team of Modern & Contemporary Art specialists, which now spans backgrounds in most of the key markets in the region: Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Japan, and Southeast Asia. He will play an integral role in advancing our strategies in the region.”

Wang Zineng, Bonhams’ Head of Modern & Contemporary Art, Asia, said, “I’m very pleased to take on the hugely exciting role of growing Bonhams’ visibility and competitiveness in the category of Modern and Contemporary Art in Asia, particularly because art and culture is at the forefront of a 21st century Asian renaissance. Together with the worldwide team, we have devised a blueprint to showcase the most art historically significant artists, artworks, sales and exhibitions in the coming months and years.”

Mr. Wang brings to Bonhams over a decade of wide-ranging experience in the art world. He has been a consultant with Bonhams since 2017 and is the founder of Art Agenda, S.E.A, an art advisory firm with expertise in Modern and Contemporary Asian art, offering curatorial, consultancy and market intelligence services. Prior to that, Mr. Wang was Vice President and Senior Specialist for Southeast Asian Art at Christie’s, and managed the development of the art collection at the National Gallery, Singapore. Mr. Wang graduated from the National University of Singapore and served as an independent curator for galleries and institutions in the 2000s. He speaks English, Mandarin and Bahasa Indonesia.
