SINGAPORE.- Miaja Gallery & Miaja Art Collections present Dissonance, a group exhibition featuring twelve contemporary artists, carefully curated as part of an immersive theatrical experience: Singapore Repertory Theatre’s CAUGHT.

Dissonance delves into the realm of the senses to explore the relationship between inner and outer worlds.

In every artwork or artwork pairing, there exists a dissonance, an activation point, whether it be through the surreal, the illusory, or the abstract. The exhibition is an invitation to pause, to dig deeper, and to question if our experience of art is about the artwork itself, or rather our own perception of it.

Across two art gallery floors, the unique curatorial approach of this exhibition invites visitors to actively engage in their experience by noticing their inner sensations in response to the varied selection of works by local and international artists. By merging styles and techniques to highlight similarities and differences, from fine art photography by David Yarrow (UK), and abstract oil-based work by Allen Tang (Singapore) to dreamy works of Singapore’s cloudy skylines by Charlotte Elizabeth (Singapore); Dissonance reveals new meanings and stories through viewing unconventional artwork pairings. Such pairings include contrasting representations of women by Sebastiano Navarra (Italy) and Kim Xu (China), amongst other interesting themes.

In a world dominated by “fake news”, he said/she said, binaries and dichotomies – how can we tell what is real from what is not? Can we rely on the rational mind to assess situations or people? What do we do when something just feels off?
