DALLAS, TX.- A breathtaking Ceylon Sapphire, Platinum Ring realized $100,000 to lead Heritage Auctions’ Fall Fine Jewelry Auction to $3,675,672 Sept. 23 in Beverly Hills, California. The auction featured assortments of colored gemstones and bejeweled curiosities that fared exceptionally well.

“This auction featured some exceptional colored gemstones, which were extremely popular,” Heritage Auctions Senior Director of Fine Jewelry Jill Burgum said. “It also featured an assortment of fascinating curiosities, which included some unique pieces that showed off the creative minds of the designers who made them.”

The Ceylon Sapphire, Platinum Ring, Dubail Paris, French prompted multiple bids before it ultimately reached $100,000 to claim top-lot honors in the sale. The ring boasts a brilliant square cushion-shaped sapphire weighing 28.45 carats, set in platinum and marked Dubail Paris, with French hallmarks. The demand for the stunning rarity stemmed in part from the sapphire’s impressive size, as well as its rich, natural color.

Also sparking numerous bids was a Diamond, Gold Ring , which closed at $47,500. The ring features a cushion-shaped diamond weighing just over 10.00 carats, set in 18k gold.

Equally popular among bidders was a Diamond, Gold Ring, Linz, which exceeded its high pre-auction estimate when it brought $41,250. The ring features a round brilliant-cut diamond weighing 7.27 carats set in 18k gold and marked “Linz.”

In similarly high demand among multiple bidders was a Diamond, Platinum Ring, which sold for $41,250. It features a round, brilliant-cut diamond weighing 2.27 carats set in platinum.

The jewelry curiosities in the auction included, but were not limited to:

• An Escudo Gold Coin, Emerald, Diamond, Gold Necklace, Dennis Smith realized $35,000. The necklace features a centered Escudo 24k gold coin that is marked “Smiths” on the reverse.

• An Opal, Diamond, Platinum, Gold Convertible Belt Buckle, which drew $25,000, is a convertible piece that can be separated into different components, effectively offering three separate pieces. In its original form, it is a gentleman’s 18k gold belt buckle featuring an opal cabochon weighing approximately 113.00 carats. The buckle can be taken apart to reveal a smaller women’s buckle or an 18k gold bolo tie with an attachment that includes a black braided leather cord.

• A set of Antique Diamond, Half-Pearl, Gold Binoculars, Cartier, featuring rose-cut diamonds set in textured 18k gold, attributed to Cartier, brought $13,750.

• A Blister Pearl, Diamond, Platinum, Gold Brooch, Sterlé, French more than doubled its low pre-auction estimate when it brought $10,625. The dazzling hummingbird features a blister pearl enhanced by full-cut diamonds, set in 18k gold and marked “Sterlé, 7453” with French hallmarks.

• A Diamond, Gold-Plated Brass Hourglass, De Beers closed at $9,375. It boasts more than 2,000 rough-cut diamonds suspended in a silicon-based fluid in a glass cylinder augmented by 24k gold-plated brass pillars and stand, marked “De Beers, Louis Glick & Company.”
