SAN FRANCISCO, CA.- Turner Auctions + Appraisals is pleased to present Native American & Spanish Colonial Decorative Arts on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 10:30 am PST. Sourced primarily from two collections, this online auction offers over 235 diverse and intriguing lots from the 18th-20th centuries, mostly from the U.S., Mexico, Latin American or South America. Some lots from Africa, Europe and Asia complete the sale.

Spanish Colonial items, produced by Spain's colonies in the New World, include retablos; figures of saints; trunks, chests and coffers; embroidery; folding chairs; altar decorations; and a silver monstrance. A selection of pottery comes from Spain and Mexico, including Talavera items. Also from Mexico are retablos, rugs and a pictorial blanket, jewelry, spurs, a ceremonial horse figure, a horse bridle, sombreros, and carved coconuts. From Latin America are processional crowns, a silver tray, stirrups, and carved figures. From South America come a Shipibo pot, Andean ritual offerings, a Brazilian dagger, masks from Ecuador and the Amazon, spurs and stirrups.

Among the featured artworks are paintings by Victor Higgins, Gerald Ira Diamond Cassidy and Kelly Pruitt; and a sculpture by Jacques and Mary Regat. The sale also features a wide array of Native American offerings, including pottery, basketry, jewelry, beaded items, and rugs. Pottery from numerous tribes is represented: San Ildefonso, Hopi, Acoma, Mata Ortiz, San Juan, Zuni, Jemez, Santa Clara, Tesuque, Zia, Isleta, Santo Domingo, Nambe and Pueblo. Baskets and other weavings come from the Pima, Apache, Paiute, Havasupai, Navajo and Makah. Beaded items include a tobacco bag and moccasins; rugs are from the Navajo. Among the jewelry offerings are squash blossom necklaces, old pawn items, and concha and silver dollar coin belts.

Other items in the sale include antique drinking cups, European lock mechanisms, sabers, Indian metal candleholders, African and Ashanti stools, Qashqai kilims, silver metal pendants, a Turkish belt, Inuit sculptures, cast bronze mortars, and more.

Turner Auctions + Appraisals begins its online auction on Sunday, December 8, 2019, at 10:30 am PST; sale items are available for preview and bidding now. The auction will be featured live on five platforms: LiveAuctioneers, Invaluable, Bidsquare, iCollector, and Turner Auctions + Appraisals’ free mobile app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Apps ("Turner Auctions"). Here are some highlights of the upcoming sale:

Lot 1: Spanish Colonial retablo, c. late 19th/early 20th century, on canvas, depicting an archangel, possibly Gabriel, 33 inches high x 25, image 27 inches high x 20. Estimate $400 - $600.

Lot 25: European Delftware and Mexican Talavera tibor. European Delftware medicine jar, c. 18th/19th century, with a Mexican Talavera tibor, c. 2nd quarter 20th century, polychrome, signed YU for Ysauro Uriarte. Largest measures 6 1/2 inches high x 4 diameter. Estimate $800 - $1,200.

Lot 74: Mexican Saltillo pictorial blanket. Approximately 90" x 44." Estimate $500 - $800.

Lot 198: Native American turquoise and silver squash blossom necklace. Size: 16" in length. Approximate total weight: 270 g. Estimate $500 - $700.

Lot 26: A Spanish Colonial trunk. A 19thcentury domed leather covered trunk with tack detail and cast iron locks; 22 inches high x 44 1/2 inches wide x 21 1/2 deep. Estimate $700 - $1,000.

Lot 192: Sioux beaded tobacco bag, c. last quarter 19th century; 44 inches long x 7 1/2. Estimate $1,500 - $2,000.

Lot 114: Bronze sculpture signed Jacques & Mary Regat (20th/21st century). Title: "Perilous Sea" Edition: 8 / 38. Date 1989. Signed: Lower middle. Size: 24.00" x 33.00" x 8.50." Estimate $3,000 - $4,000.

Lot 160: San Ildefonso bowl, (4" x 6") by Maria Martinez and Popovi Da; black on black with feather and another design, made between 1956 and 1959. Estimate $800 - $1,200.

Lot 220: Mexican silver bracelet, c. first half 20th century, a cuff, designed with crossed arms holding amethyst bouquets, stamped Mexico Sterling M. 2 inches high x 3 inches across. Weight: 90 g. Estimate $200 - $400.

Lot 194: Navajo Two Grey Hills rug. Approximately 89" x 54." Estimate $800 - $1,200.

Lot 108: Victor Higgins (1894-1949). Framed oil on paper signed Victor Higgins, lower middle. Title: "Madonna." Size: 18" x 10" (visible paper size) 24.5" x 16.5" (frame). Provenance: Zaplin-Lampert Gallery, 651 Canyon Rd., Santa Fe, New Mexico. Estimate $15,000 - $25,000.

Lot 7: Spanish Colonial carved figure of a saint, c. 19th century, perhaps a depiction of a well-dressed St. Francis, the open chest area containing a relic of that saint; 24 inches high x 12 x 6. Estimate $2,500 - $3,500.
