Henri-Pierre Picou (Nantes 1824 - 1895), Tirsi e Clori. Oil on canvas, 37 x 46 cm. Estimate: € 1200-1800.

ROME.- The Babuino Auction House will present an event not to be missed by collectors of Ancient Art. The sale taking place December 17th to 20th presents a collection of important old master paintings and drawings, antique furnishings, ancient sculptures and majolica, 19th century paintings and furnishing, crib art, silver, jewels, in its historic Roman location in Via dei Greci 2a .

Among the paintings there is the important discovery of the original of the Visitation of Antiveduto Gramatica (€ 12,000-18,000), a work attribution by Prof. Gianni Papi. The painting is followed by The Four Seasons of a 17th century Roman Painter, referring to the painting by Bartolomeo Manfredi (€ 8000-12000), a splendid Ink of Giulio Romano's style, a Mary Magdalene attributed to Sebastiano Mazzoni, two important still lifes of a Flemish Painter from the seventeenth century, and a work by Giuseppe Bonito Family Portrait. These paintings come together with about 100 works of Italian and European masters starting from the 16th century.

The 18th December session is extremely rich, dominated by the objects of the Spolverini Collection, including wooden sculptures from the medieval period to the 18th century, ancient marbles and a splendid collection of majolica from Roman Castels, all coming from an illustrious Roman family. Antique furniture and late middle Ages complete the offer with 16th and 17th century Italian furniture, 18th century commodes, consoles, marble tables, bronzes and medieval and Gothic sculptures.

The third session is dedicated to painting and furnishing of the nineteenth century, including a beautiful collection of Shepherds and Crib Accessories. Among the painting we recall a splendid painting depicting the View of Capri from Nisida (€ 8000-12000), a painting by Henri-Pierre Picou (Nantes 1824 - 1895), depicting Tirsi and Chloris, a View of Venice by Carlo Grubacs, a Landscape with children by Filippo Palizzi, a rare Terracotta by Costantino Barbella. Finally, a splendid table with a marble top will be presented that afternoon.

Last not least we advise our Jewelery sale with a collection of Vintage American Costume Jewelery from the first half of the 1900s, scheduled for Friday afternoon, December 20th.
Important also the antique and 20th century silverware, among which an outstanding Gilded Silver Teapot by the London silversmith Edward Farrell of 1828.

An important appointment for Ancient art with high quality objects and works, for the renewed interest in the investment of Italian and European collectors in Antiques and Fine Art.

The exhibition will open to the public from Friday 13 to Monday 16 December 2019
From 10.00 am to 8.00 pm

The auction will also be streamed on the "Invaluable" and "The Saleroom" online platforms.
