SHEBOYGAN, WI.- The John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wis., has named Kaytie Johnson as senior curator. Johnson will assume her duties at the Arts Center in early February.
Kaytie comes to us with a wealth of experience in curatorial leadership areas that will help propel the Center forward, said JMKAC Associate Director Amy Horst. Under her guidance, I am confident that our talented and creative team will continue to develop exhibitions that are relevant to and engage in meaningful dialogue with all our audiences.
Johnson currently serves as the Bruce Kamerling curator at the San Diego History Center. She has over twenty years experience curating and a solid record of developing ambitious, reflective and timely exhibitions, publications and public programs. Johnson fills the Arts Center position vacated by Karen Patterson, who left in June to become the curator at The Fabric Workshop in Philadelphia, PA.
I couldnt be more thrilled and honored to be joining the outstanding team at John Michael Kohler Arts Center. The Arts Centers national reputation for groundbreaking exhibitions and its exceptional and unique collection are truly inspiring, said Johnson.
As Bruce Kamerling curator of the San Diego History Center, Johnson oversees all aspects of the Museums fine art collection, related exhibitions, research and interpretative programs. Johnson previously served as the Rochelle F. Levy director and chief curator for The Galleries at Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia, and director and curator of University Galleries, Museums and Collections at DePauw University, Greencastle, IN. Johnson has developed and presented over 75 exhibitions, and has written for numerous catalogues and publications. She holds a MA in art history and a BA in art history from Arizona State University.
With her experience developing dynamic and inclusive contemporary art exhibitions and related multidisciplinary programs, we look forward to Kaytie joining us in carrying the Arts Centers mission forward and engaging with all the communities we serve, said John Michael Kohler Arts Center Director Sam Gappmayer.
Johnson was selected following a national search guided by Museum Search & Reference.
