Painter Bernarda Bryson Shahn, 101, Dies |

ROOSEVELT, N.J.- Painter Bernarda Bryson Shahn, 101, died, reported The New York Times. She was the widow of painter Ben Shahn. She started her career as an illustrator, printmaker and writer. She was mostly recognized in the last years for her paintings. She had solo exhibitions at Midtown Galleries in New York and at the Ben Shahn Galleries of William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J. The Whitney Museum of American Art is one of the museums that holds works by Ms. Shahn. She was born on March 7, 1903 in Athens, Ohio. She studied printmaking at Ohio University, Ohio State and the Cleveland School of Art. She met Ben Shahn, Diego Riveras assistant, in 1933 and they became companions. They got married in 1969, just before he died.
