MINNEAPOLIS, MN.- The Minneapolis Institute of Art presents Above Is Below: Sarah Bauer / David Hamlow, through February 13, 2005 at the Minnesota Artists Gallery. "Above is Below" features the spiritually based art of Sarah Chokyi Anne Bauer and David Hamlow, whose distinct bodies of work have evolved out of long-term meticulously defined daily practice. The exhibition will present an installation of repetitive images by Bauer, who holds sacred Buddhist ritual at the core of her artistic inquiry; and a structure built by Hamlow, who records his daily life by saving, sorting and arranging the commercial packaging and detritus of his daily consumption.

Sarah Chokyi Bauer is a Fiscal Year 2004 recipient of an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. Her work in "Above Is Below" is made possible in part by a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, and by a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, made possible through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature and a grant from the National Endoment for the Arts. The Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program is supported in part by a generous grant from the Jerome Foundation.
