VIENNA, AUSTRIA.- The Albertina Museum presents Alex Katz, through February 20, 2005. Alex Katz, born in New York in 1927 is one of the most important contemporary American artists. Influenced by film and advertising he established his unique artistic position in the 1960’s. From the beginning Alex Katz one of the great contemporary portrait artists has preferred subjects from the world of leisure and fashion.
The Albertina will exhibit 35 cartoons and 15 paintings from the last 25 years, thereby uniting them publicly for the first time. In his expressive drawing style Katz sketches only the outlines of his subjects in the large cartoons and then copies them onto the equally large canvas where they are transformed into the typical intense glowing colours of Katz’ paintings.
