Black Hat SEO - What is it and why we don't use it

Black hat SEO can be described as tricks, techniques, or tactics against search engine guidelines used to increase a page's rankings on the search engine result page (SERP). Most people turn to black hat SEO because it produces results faster than the white hat SEO.

However, over the years, search engines have been refining their algorithms to identify websites that use various black hat SEO practices and then penalizing them quite harshly. Although you might momentarily see some progress in your ranking, black hat SEO will eventually tank your website in such a way that recovering would be nearly impossible.

Google and Bing, via their webmaster guidelines, have openly denounced several practices. To that end, let's look at several black hat SEO practices that can be detrimental to your growth and success.

Keyword stuffing
Keyword stuffing is one of the most popular black hat SEO tactics, just ask SEO Jacksonville. While it might have worked before, it's continually losing its allure. Search engines such as Google have created mechanisms to tell whether a particular keyword is being used recklessly to bait them. These companies realized that articles that had a high keyword density were wholly irrelevant to the reader and didn't provide any meaningful information.

Because of that, these search engines recommend creating content for people and not the SERPs. This way, you can have your keywords in the articles but in a way that feels fluid and natural. Websites that stuff their content with keywords are deemed to be spam, and therefore their rankings take a considerable dive.

Using irrelevant keywords
These days there are plenty of tools both free and paid to help people discover keywords to use for better rankings. Some people will find the most popular keywords and use them on their web pages so that they can rank better. While it might work for a while, and your rank in SERPs might get better, people going to the website will soon realize that the content on the website doesn't work for them and leave.

When many people do this, your click-through-rate suffers, and the search engine takes measures to penalize you, which might include removing the website from specific keyword searches. The objective here is staying relevant to the content you post and the keywords you choose to pursue. Provide value above all else.

Link over-optimization
Although link building is crucial in white hat SEO, abusing it can have disastrous consequences for your website. Some lead generation specialists claim that to generate credible leads, you have to show that you have links to authoritative websites. Regular sites have both internal and external links that are healthy. The problem then comes in where you overly stuff links even in places where it's unnecessary.

A better way would be to utilize deep links to strengthen the internal links without raising any red flags.

Duplicate content
The process of creating new unique content is not easy. As such, some website owners prefer the alternative of finding related content from various websites and piecing them together. To the naked eye, this content might look relevant, but as these search engines index websites, they have crawled through, finding duplicate content is quite easy.

When they identify any of your content as copied, your SEO visibility takes a big hit because no matter how informative the pieces are, they cannot show it in their SERPs.
Others decide to be more creative and use article spinners. Although the spinners will churn out near original content, many of the times, you'll find that they do not have a flow or give the user any relevant or useful information. If you have spotted content that you like, it's better to write it yourself and add some spice to it.

Abusing rich snippets
Rich snippets are a compelling way to get people to click on your website on the search engine results page. However, to gain more traffic, some people go the extra mile of including irrelevant snippets to lure traffic. When people get to the site and see that the information was misleading, they will leave the website, and some will even report the dishonesty.

Once an engine such as Google identifies this habit, you get a spammy structured markup penalty. This penalty will mean that in cases where your page was on the first page of SERPs, it's pushed to the second or even third page. To avoid this, ensure that all your rich snippets are relevant to the content on your page!

Conclusion
There are plenty of other black hat SEO tactics being used out there. While some lead generation specialists might recommend some of these tactics to bolster your rankings and website traffic quickly, your reputation and long term rankings will be damaged. When search engines have blacklisted your website for black hat SEO practices, your only other choice is to start again, which negates all the hard work you might have put into the other site.
