ATLANTA, GA.- Former NBA player Mike “Stinger” Glenn will present From Molineaux To Michael: African Americans In Athletics, his collection of historical African-American artifacts at the Decatur Library, February 13 thru March 5, 2005.

“I have dedicated a big part of my life to the preservation of the legacy left to us by the most worthy role models,” said the former Atlanta Hawks player and television personality. “This legacy takes the form of books, magazines, newspapers, manuscripts, photographs and other artifacts that make up the Mike Glenn Collection.”

The exhibit includes artifacts from African American sports icons such as Muhammad Ali, Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Florence Griffith Joyner, Jessie Owens and Joe Louis. From Molineaux To Michael: African Americans In Athletics, is a special exhibit that is part of The Mike Glenn Collection. The larger collection reacquaints sports enthusiasts with sports pioneers and chronicles the contributions these black heroes made.

“From Molineaux To Michael: African Americans In Athletics captures the essence of the African American experience as played out on the baseball diamonds, football fields, boxing rings, horse tracks and other significant venues of American and world sports,” said Mike Glenn.

Beginning with Tom Molineaux, a freed slave who received international acclaim when he fought the World Heavyweight Champion Tom Cribb in 1810 and 1811, the exhibit features artifacts and highlights accomplishments that preserves and reveres the struggles of black athletes. Other noted items feature Issac Burns Murphy, the first jockey to win 3 Kentucky Derbies; Marshall Taylor; a bicycle rider who became the first American born black man to win a national title in any sport; and Wilma Rudolph, the first American woman to win 3 gold medals in one Olympics.

An opening reception will be February 13, 2005, at 3 pm, which will include a speech from Mike “Stinger” Glenn. Admission is free and open to the general public.
