Poster Portraying Pope John Paul II Unveiled in Warsaw |
WARSAW, POLAND.- A large poster that portrays Pope John Paul II by Polish artist Piotr Uklanski went up in downtown Warsaw. The work is around two stories high and is made up of thousands of Brazilian soldiers photographed from the air that resemble Pope John Paul II in a profile. The work is part of the art that will be featured at the planned museum of modern art at Warsaw’s Palace of Culture. The poster will be on view for three months.
Culture Ministry spokeswoman Anna Godzisz said, “It encourages and shows that contemporary art does not have to be controversial and provocative. It can be clear to understand, pleasant to the eye and at the same time have a moral value to it."
