Renowned Specialist Jennifer Vorbach Returns to Christies

LONDON, UK.- Christie’s announces that Jennifer Vorbach has been appointed International Director, Post-War & Contemporary Art, based in Switzerland. She will work closely with the New York based Co-Heads of the International Department, Brett Gorvy & Amy Cappellazzo, contributing to the Christie’s sales of Post-War & Contemporary Art in London, New York and Paris. Ms. Vorbach’s official starting date is May 2.

Ms. Vorbach is highly experienced in the auction, art advisory and dealing sides of the business. She will be of invaluable support to Christie’s already strong Post-War and Contemporary Art team that was joined last year by Florence de Botton as International Director, based in Paris and working with Caroline Smulders. In addition, Silvan Faessler recently joined Christie’s Zurich as Director, Post-War and Contemporary Art.

Born in Paris and raised in Switzerland, Jennifer spent her school years at the famous Ecole Internationale in Geneva. After graduating in History of Art at Mount Holyoke College in the United States, she completed Christie's Fine Art course in London. Joining Christie's New York in 1979 in the Prints department, Jennifer became Head of the department in 1984. She was promoted to Head of the New York Contemporary Art department in 1988. Soon after, she left Christie's to join the Art Advisory services of Citibank, where she advised clients on their contemporary art collections until 1992. Since 1993, until now, Jennifer has been a director of the C & M Arts gallery in New York, becoming a partner in 1997, where she specialised in American artists of the Post-War years, such as Willem de Kooning, Brice Marden, Agnes Martin, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Cy Twombly and Andy Warhol.

Jennifer is a seasoned auctioneer, who regularly led Christie’s sales during her tenure. She has continued to regularly hold auctions for various New York-based charity organisations, such as City of Hope and The Museum of Art & Design. Jennifer is bilingual in French and English

Christie’s looks forward to an exciting year of Post-War and Contemporary Art sales in 2005 and to further strengthening their position as the market leaders in this competitive field.
