NEW YORK.- Works by Students of the Art Students League of NY will be featured in the first “Art at the Crossroads” exhibition at Times Square Arts Center, 300 W. 43rd St., home of the world famous Laugh Factory. A champagne reception sponsored exclusively by St. Michelle Wine Estates, makers of Domaine St. Michelle, will be held from 4 to 6 P.M. on Thursday, April 7 to celebrate the student works, which will remain on exhibit thru May in the Times Square Arts Center lobby located at the corner of 8th Ave. and 43rd St. in the heart of Times Square.

“We’re delighted to host this inaugural exhibition of works by some of the most talented students at the Art Students League of NY,” said Marc Barbanell, Executive Director of the Times Square Arts Center. “We believe this art is richly deserving of exhibition at the crossroads of the world, Times Square,” he said.

All of the works depict performing arts subjects and include:

J. Marshall’s 2004, pastel, Alexandra (25 x 38”, private collection). Mr. Marshall is a law school graduate and former employee of a major Wall St. firm, who has continued his longstanding interest in art full-time at The Art Students League.

Maya Hardin, Fosse Dancer, soft ground etching, 18 x 22 $350 and Salome, soft ground etching, 12 x 22, $250.

Other works are by Andy Hoogenboom, [musician], monoprints, and an untitled oil on canvas by Mary Poerner. A printmaker and theater dresser who lives in Brooklyn, Ms. Poerner’s recent exhibitions include Sky Gallery (Osaka, Japan) 2002; Gallery of Graphic Arts, New York City 2003-04; National Arts Club 2004. She has participated in Workshops in Color Etching with Sweitlan N. Kraczyna, in Olomouc, Czech Republic 2003 and Barga, Italy 2004.

“We’re very pleased that these outstanding works by our student artists will be exhibited at such a prominent location in Times Square,” said Pam Koob, Art Students League of NY curator. Founded in 1875, The Art Students League of New York is one of the oldest independent art schools in the United States. Some of the most well-known artists of the 20th century taught or studied there, including William Merritt Chase, Georgia O’Keeffe, Thomas Hart Benton, Jackson Pollock, David Smith and Louise Nevelson. Today, nearly 2300 students from around the world enroll in its classes taught by professional artists in the media of painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture

The exhibition arranged by MaddZone Marketing in collaboration with Art Students League of NY will be open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM weekdays only and on weekends by appointment.
