The Impact The Beatles had on the Global Music Scene

Music has evolved over the years and has become a seminal part of our lives, whether driving to work or exercising, music is integral to our daily being. Being able to enjoy music is something that we all appreciate but being able to play and practice music is something that few of us can do well. The Beatles Chords and the music they played are legendary and still to this day are some of the most popular recordings we listen to but, the Beatles are not the only band that has changed the music scene throughout the world from Liverpool. Countless bands over the last few decades from Liverpool have influenced many current bands we listen to today.

Liverpool has a strong and lasting impression on music and will continue to do so. Steeped in a rich cultural heritage and a diverse community the city will continue to provide us with new and exciting music for generations.

The Early Years and the Formation of the Beatles
Coming together in early 1957 and becoming one of the most successful bands of all time the teenagers, John Lennon, Ringo Star, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison had to deal with hardship and poverty. Liverpool an industrial and port city was in a state of depression during these times but due to the creative nature of the influx of many nationalities music was an outlet for many. Liverpool and the Beatles were an inspiration to many of the artists of the world for generations to come.

Had the Beatles not come to formation then the music we know and love today could have been very different.

The Influence of the Beatles on the British Music Scene
With 1963 and the huge rise in popularity of the band across the United Kingdom and soon the world their influence was felt in the charts and development of music as a whole. Soon the Beatles would become the most famous band in the world and singles such as let it be chord and the albums Sergeants Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band would become global hits. Creating a new sound and helping to promote British music and influencing bands all over the world.

With the advent of Beatle Mania, many bands and artists became highly successful using the sounds and formula of their creative writing.

The Global Phenomenon of the Beatles
Whilst the Beatles and their music were popular in the United Kingdom it was not long until the band became a huge sensation in the United States and beyond. After arriving on the American music scene overnight success was achieved with such recordings and live performances as:

● 1962: Love Me Do was released in the United Kingdom and later released in the United States in 1964 in both charts becoming number one hit singles.

● She Loves You, written by both Paul McCartney and John Lennon and also released in 1964 in the United States was another number one hit single for the band

● Help and Yesterday were both released in 1965 and were both instrumental in promoting the band to international fame both in Europe and the United States.

With so many hits to mention this is just the start of their rise to success. There are simply too many prolific recordings to mention.

The Best Years of the Beatles
For the band, after finding its best line of McCartney, Lennon, Harrison, and Starr they started to play the local music scene, in Liverpool and around the United Kingdom. Hamburg, Germany was also a place with a vibrant music scene where the Beatles began their live music stardom. But in Liverpool, the now legendary Cavern Club which was originally opened in 1957 as a jazz club became their new residence for live entertainment.

The defining moment for the band’s global popularity was probably their appearance on the popular American Ed Sullivan show with an estimated 73 million viewers and the opening of hits All My Lovin and followed by Til There Was You if you weren’t already a fan you were now and their global fame was cemented. The crowd went wild with excitement and loved every part of the show, the Beatles had truly arrived in the United States and things only got bigger and better after the performance.

Global Success of the Beatles
With the success of the first American televised show and topping the Billboard Chart in the US global fame and recognition was guaranteed. Everywhere they played crowds gathered. Just arriving at the airport and being seen created excitement amongst the mostly young crowds assembled to greet their new music heroes. Wherever the band went the press and camera crews were present following their every move. And their style of music was not the only thing that changed the world.

Hairstyles also changed, many teenagers and young adults alike started to copy the Beatles along with the fashion they wore. They were also pioneers in bringing large stadium audiences, drawing huge crowds that had never been seen before, in the home of the New York Mets, Shea Stadium a crowd of over 55,000 people attended a concert performed by the Beatles and even sold out in 17 minutes, also proving that large scale concerts could work and be profitable for the organizers.

A Change in Direction for the Beatles
After a very successful decade of music throughout the world, the Beatles took a time out and traveled to India and began to meditate as a way to find new inspiration and to get away from the drug scene that was part of the rock and lifestyle. Whilst using meditation and getting themselves away from the music scene and glamorous parties of the west they wrote some of the best music they had produced including two songs that appeared on the Abbey Road album.

Meditation and escaping the lifestyle was a game-changer for the Beatles, new inspiration and creative ideas changed them from being a pop/boyband to more serious and adult based musicians. John Lennon and Paul McCartney were the lead singers and creative writers behind the new and inspiring direction the band took.

Whilst taking the band in a more alternative route it did not diminish from the Beatles popularity.

Summary
The Beatles started as a low key band in Liverpool with new chords and rifts they soon became possibly the biggest band of all time and their musical influence is still felt today. As individual artists, they achieved success after the band separated after years of dominating the charts, from England to America and Mexico. It goes to show the importance of music and the culture it can divide.

Unfortunately, a reunion was never really accomplished after the killing of John Lennon, possibly the most creative and influential of the “Fab Four” in New York, outside the Dakota building in 1980 for which Mark Chapman is still serving a life sentence. And may never see life outside a prison again. Whilst tragic the Beatles still remain one the most popular bands on the planet with their songs being played on radio stations and tv stations all over the world to this day. It just goes to show that anybody with talent and regardless of their background can achieve anything.
