Call For Entries For Human Figure Exhibition



LONG BEACH, CA.- Long Beach Arts, in its 81st year, announced a Call for Entries for its Human Figure exhibition, May 21 to June 25, 2005. Opening Reception: Sunday, May 22, 2-4pm. Slide Entries must be received by April 16. The exhibition is open to all artists in all media except film and video, performance, crafts and jewelry.

About the juror: Domenic Cretara, Professor of Art at California State University, Long Beach, works primarily in drawing and painting. He earned his bachelor and master of fine arts degrees from Boston University School of Fine Arts, graduating with honors. He has received the Outstanding Professor Award and Distinguished Faculty Teaching and Creative Achievement Awards at CSULB. Among other tributes, Cretara has also been the recipient of a Fulbright-Hayes Grant to Florence, Italy, and fellowships to Padua, Italy, and Cassis, France.

Cretara is a particularly active exhibiting artist with many solo exhibitions at galleries and museums in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco Las Vegas, Seattle and Boston, including a retrospective at the Las Vegas Art Museum, and an exhibition at the Frye Art Museum in Seattle, Washington. His work has been included in over twenty-five group shows in venues on both coasts and Europe. His works are in the collections of major institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Wigging Print and Drawing Collection of the Boston Public Library. Cretara's images not only have graced the covers of magazines and illustrated poems but have also been reproduced in many publications, including The Art of Responsive Drawing, Figure Drawing, and Painting: Perceptual and Technical Fundamentals, (Prentice Hall Publications); Sex: Portraits of Passion (Watson Guptill Publications); feature articles for American Arts Quarterly and American Artist; and reviews in the Los Angeles Times and the Boston Herald.
