LOS ANGELES, CA.- Admirers of the best-selling novelist and journalist Judith Krantz may bid on treasured items from her Bel Air estate on Thursday, April 8 at 9 a.m. PDT. Hosted by Los Angeles’ Abell Auction Co., the online-only sale will offer an array of fine art, furniture, modern prints, and other fine collectibles and personal mementos.

Krantz is most well-known for authoring romance novels such as “Scruples” (1978), which remained on the New York Times best seller list for over a year, and “Princess Daisy” (1980), which also topped the best-seller list and set the record for the highest price ever paid for a novel at the time. Overall, Krantz’s 10 books numbered more than 80 million in print and encompassed over 50 languages at the time of her passing in June 2019. Seven of her novels were adapted for television as miniseries.

Before discovering her talent for fiction, Krantz spent 27 years in journalism writing for publications such as Ladies Home Journal, Good Housekeeping and Cosmopolitan, which featured her most popular article “The Myth of the Multiple Orgasm.” Female empowerment, achievement and artistry were among her prominent themes. She was an avid supporter of the Library Foundation of Los Angeles and the Music Center of Los Angeles.

Over Krantz’s lifetime and 53-year marriage to the late Steve Krantz, the prolific writer acquired belongings that reflected her unique tastes and lifestyle. Highlighted items at the April 8 sale include an ink wash painting by Reuven Rubin ($1,800-2,500); Charles & Ray Eames lounge chair and ottoman ($1,000-1,500); Marc Chagall lithograph ($800-1,200); Judith Krantz Good Housekeeping magazine pages ($50-75); Judith Krantz decoupage assembly ($300-400); and much more.

“Abell is honored to offer a stunning collection from the longtime Los Angeles residence of Judith Krantz, who achieved incredible publishing success and became one of the world’s first celebrity authors,” said Senior Vice-President of Business Development Joe Baratta. “This is an opportunity for buyers, collectors and fans from around the globe to acquire an item she treasured during her remarkable life.”

An auction preview will be conducted by appointment only on Monday April 5 through Wednesday April 7 at the Abell gallery, 2613 Yates Ave. in Los Angeles. A complete catalog will be available on April 2 at www.abell.com. Buyers may place absentee bids with Abell directly, bid via telephone or bid online at LiveAuctioneers.com and Invaluable.com.
