AMSTERDAM.- Today marks the worldwide launch of the auction of Reflections on Art & Life by
bo.kč, which consists of two series of 5 digitally reinvented artworks inspired by 17th century Delftware. Using lifelike digital twins created with cutting-edge 3D digitization technology and creatively adapting them in ways that wouldnt be possible physically, this work proves that existing artworks can be used to create a new high value (digital) art form itself. Dubbed digital twin art, the artform is both indistinguishable from reality but at the same time free of real-world limitations. The sale marks the first time ever that NFT-based digital twin art will been auctioned, marking another milestone in the rapidly developing market for digital art. The original artwork remains on sale as well, marking the first ever split of digital vs. physical ownership of the same artwork.
With digitization technology rapidly advancing and awaiting the introduction of a new generation of wearables such as AR glasses, Reflections on Art and Life provides a glimpse of what is yet to come when artists and creators start exploring this new form of art by digitally reinventing existing artworks in new and profound ways.
Bob Ketting, as digital creator bo.kč, and Co-Founder of FloatScans added: Im excited to see what the impact of digital twin art will be and how its going to be used going forward. State-of-the-art technology now enables a new generation of creators to infuse existing artworks with a new level of creativity and meaning. I believe were only at the forefront of an exciting new development in the world of (digital) art.
Robert Aronson, owner of Aronson of Amsterdam and the original artwork, remarked: In addition to real-world art, this digital artform offers a profoundly different and magical experience. With the arrival of AR glasses, I envision the possibility to create a museum experience with all kinds of unique artworks that are visible wherever one looks. Additionally, these artworks will not require any conservation or security as they exist only digitally.
Reflections on Art & Life is powered by unique 3D digitization technology of FloatScans, an Amsterdam based startup, that creates digital twins of real-world art that is indistinguishable from reality. This level of realism allows art lovers to get closer to the artwork than ever before, all from the comfort of their own home, enabling a new kind of intimate experience. The technology boosts an astonishing level of detail and revolutionarily captures how artworks interact with light, a visual effect that truly brings it to life digitally.
Max Roest, Founder of FloatScans, added: Im thrilled to see our technology being used for creative projects, like the one that my Co-Founder Bob has undertaken. FloatScans was founded to enable a new way of interaction and storytelling with art. I think well see many more interesting projects in the future, such as immersive new digital museum experiences.
Reflections on Art and Life is a series of unique NFT-based digital twin art. A Non-Fungible Token, or NFT, is a unique digital token which is individually verified using blockchain technology. Deploying blockchain technology for digital or digitized art plays into the need for authentication and provenance. All artworks have been digitally signed by the creator of the digital twins. The market for digital assets is rapidly growing, with digital art being an important category. Recent weeks saw a number of record-setting transactions, mostly on specialized marketplaces such as OpenSea, with the most noteworthy acquisition being the recent sale of The First 5000 Days by Christies, a purely digital work of art by Beeple, a pioneer among digital artists.
