Mayors Photography Competition in London

LONDON, UK.- It is the third photographic contest celebrating London’s diversity that has been supported by Mayor Ken Livingstone. Winning entries will be displayed in July.

The Mayor said: “This is an excellent opportunity for all photographers to capture and celebrate their experiences of living in one of the most diverse cities in the world. Everyone from school children to professional photographers has equal chances of winning in the different categories. I encourage everyone to have their cameras nearby over the next few weeks and I wish everyone luck in capturing a great image.”

Entrants have from now until June 1st 2005 to take a photograph that reflects the way Londoners from all races, faiths and cultures live, work and play together across the capital. Applicants can submit a colour print or digital image of their own work. Entries are spilt into three categories: under 18; 18 and over (amateur); and 18 and over (professional).

Last year’s top winners included a talented 8 year-old pupil from Parkwood Primary School, North London, who found inspiration in his multi-cultural playground. Other entrants captured thought provoking images on busy London streets, at colourful cultural festivals, outside shops, and in parks.

Winning entries will be featured in a special exhibition at City Hall, SE1 and at the Mayor’s annual anti-racism music festival in July. For more information go to this url: http://www.london.gov.uk/mayor/equalities/photocomp/rules.jsp.
