LOS ANGELES, CA.- The Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery announces its C.O.L.A. 2005 Individual Artist Fellowships: Featuring Visual, Performance, and Literary Artists in Barnsdall Park. Visual artists Kaucyila Brooke, Ernesto de la Loza, Cheri Gaulke, Wayne Alaniz Healy, William E. Jones, Cindy Kolodziejski, Lies Kraal, Steve Roden, and Alison Saar. Performance artists Ron George, Michael Kearns, Anne LeBaron, and Paul Zaloom. Literary artists Katharine Haake and Eloise Klein Healy. The exhibition will be on view through Sunday, June 26, 2005.
C.O.L.A. 2005 Individual Artist Fellowships - The C.O.L.A. (City of Los Angeles) 2005 Individual Artist Fellows have been selected, and each artist has completed a project supported with one year of funding from the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Departments Cultural Grant Program. Of the fifteen Fellows, nine are visual artists, four are performance artists, and two are literary artists. The C.O.L.A. 2005 visual arts Fellows are Kaucyila Brooke, Ernesto de la Loza, Cheri Gaulke, Wayne Alaniz Healy, William E. Jones, Cindy Kolodziejski, Lies Kraal, Steve Roden, and Alison Saar. The performance arts Fellows are Ron George, Michael Kearns, Anne LeBaron, and Paul Zaloom. The literary arts Fellows are Katharine Haake and Eloise Klein Healy.
Barnsdall Park will host a comprehensive review of work by all fifteen C.O.L.A. artists, including a visual arts exhibition, performance series, film screenings, and Conversations with the Artists, at the Parks Municipal Art Gallery and Barnsdall Gallery Theatre. An Exhibition Reception, to be held May 14, will feature music by Charangoa, courtesy of the Recording Industries Music Performance Fund.
Every year, the C.O.L.A. Individual Artist Fellowship program bestows $10,000, in the form of an unrestricted financial grant, to each artist selected for esteem and support. Peer panels, including local art experts, educators, and community leaders, review C.O.L.A. applications each year. Joe Smoke, Cultural Grant Program Director, is proud to note, The Cultural Affairs Department has awarded honors in the visual arts for the past nine years, in the performing arts for six years, and in literary arts for two years.
The C.O.L.A. 2005 performance schedule includes performance pieces, literary readings, and film screenings. Please see below for a detailed performance schedule. In addition, the Municipal Art Gallery will present Conversations with the Artists, a dialogue series with this years Fellows. There will be a total of three Conversations on three different dates: Saturday, May 21, First Friday, June 3, and Saturday, June 18. Admission is Free to all C.O.L.A. performances, screenings, and Conversations with the Artists.
The C.O.L.A. Fellowship Program is rooted in individual artists unique creative merit and artists are selected for honor through a peer review panel process. Mark Steven Greenfield, Director of the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery and Curator of the C.O.L.A. 2005 exhibition, points out, As curators, our mission is formidable and somewhat unconventional, in that we had no part in the selection process, but are charged with creating continuity for an exhibition that is in a constant state of evolution. Thereby, the City of Los Angeles is honored to present its selected Fellows for the year 2005.
Barnsdall Park is facility of the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department Admission for Adults is $5; Seniors and Students, $3; Children under 12 with Adults, Free. Admission is Free to the Exhibition Reception, Performances, and during First Fridays (first Friday of each month). The Gallery is open Friday through Sunday, 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. Hours are extended to 9:00 p.m. on First Fridays.
