ArtExperience by Domus Academy and Progetto Italia
Domus Academy and Progetto Italia launch ArtExperience 2005 with Olafur Eliasson.

VENICE, ITALY.- For 2005, Domus Academy and Progetto Italia feature the second edition of ArtExperience: two series of meetings and events on contemporary art during the month of June, to coincide with the opening of the 51st edition of the Biennale dell’Arte in Venice. Devoted both to specialists and to people keen of arts in general, ArtExperience 2005 deals the relationship between art, sound, architecture and technology with different approaches.

ArtExperience, which takes place in the Telecom Italia Future Centre, located in the striking San Salvador Cloister in Venice, is a project that every year articulates around first-rate artists of the contemporary scene: this year the danish Olafur Eliasson and the german Carsten Nicolai will enliven public conversations, round tables and performances, together with leading personalities of the cultural, art and publishing worlds.

Close to this intensive evening program of open and free events, ArtExperience proposes two workshops, held in english, that will allow a selected group of participants to spent five days in close contact with the artists.

ArtExperience with Olafur Eliasson will be focused on the idea of geometrical models - a recurring presence in his artworks - through which the artist creates his structures. Models act as generators of a never-ended reality and are a reference to create settings, installations and artworks in which art and architecture are represented together.

Modelmania is the title of the workshop of this first ArtExperience appointment with Eliasson, organized by Domus Academy and Progetto Italia. For the first time, the artist will speak of the use and the importance of models in his work and the debate will be animated by two important lecturers: Hans Ulrich Obrist, curator of several international art exhibition and Kjetil Thorsen, the architect that designed the Alexandria Library in Egypt as well as the Oslo Opera House. Their participation will therefore enlarge the focus of the workshop to the use of models in art and architecture. Beside those lecturers, a special guest, the theorist of architecture Yona Friedman, will give a public lecture with the artist showing their 2002 project of collaboration.

Modelmania will take place in the particular frame of Venice, at the Telecom Italia Future Centre, former San Salvador Convent. From 6 to 10 June, to coincide with the Biennale of Art Opening, the ArtExperience week will offer a workshop in English language with limited admissions and two public events open to the big public.

The participants, selected through a curriculum and a motivation letter, will have the occasion to take actively part to Modelmania and to discuss their ideas with Olafur Eliasson, Hans Ulrich Obrist and Kjetil Thorsen. Aim of the workshop is to offer a specific in the field experience of sharing reflections with some of the key people in the contemporary art and architecture debate.

Domus Academy is offering a scholarship to applicants with a brilliant curriculum. Students and professional that are interested to participate to the workshop selection are called to send via email a cv and a motivation letter to info@domusacademy.it
