Gathered Food Recipes in Minecraft (Plants)

Minecraft is a game that opens a lot of potential for creativity with its open-world design, combat system, the ability to craft new items, and designing buildings.

The interactions you can have with the environment make Minecraft very fun to play; it is no wonder that there are more than 126 million players worldwide, making it one of the most popular games ever.

If you’re new to Minecraft, then you might be struggling a bit with food, as it would take getting used to, learning the recipes, and learning which foods are worth more than other foods in terms of value.

This guide will give you information on the gathered food recipes and how to make them.

Gathered Food Recipes (Plants)
Gathered food refers to food you collect from plants, including seeds, veggies, fruits, and mushrooms, including:

Wheat
To make wheat, you need four seeds which are collected from grass and tall grass breaking, and 8 Bone Meals (optional for speed), which are made by crafting a bone or a bone block.

To make wheat, either find or create an area with water, hoe the area surrounding the water pool, plant the seeds, then fertilize the land with Bone Meals. After a while, you can harvest your wheat.

Sugar Canes
Sugar Canes are much simpler than wheat; you’ll find them randomly roaming the Minecraft world growing next to water areas. To obtain them, simply break the Sugar Cain, and you’ll have it in your inventory.

Cocoa Beans
Similar to Sugar Canes, Cocoa Beans need to be found and harvested. You’ll find them in the Jungle biome area, hit the Cocoa Beans dangling from the tree, and collect the fallen beans.

Sweet Berries
Sweet barriers are another collectible item in Minecraft that you can most commonly find in the Taiga and Giant Spruce Taiga. Simply walk to the sweet berry bush and hit it until it drops the berries. However, watch out not to get too close to the bush as it can cause you damage.

Apples
Apples are collected by finding an Oak Tree and chopping it down using an axe, an apple with occasional drop.

Carrots
Carrots can be collected in villages in Minecraft. Simply look for any village, then find a garden inside that village, then you can dig up the carrots and collect them.

Potatoes
Potatoes are very similar to carrots as they need to be collected from villages in the same manner, by going for gardens and digging them up.

Poisonous Potatoes
The poisonous potatoes will sometimes randomly spawn when you’re gathering potatoes. The process is exactly the same as gathering potatoes described above.

Beetroot
Beetroots are also found in village gardens; they will be lying there waiting for you to dig them up. You can also plant Beetroot Seeds next to water and farm them the same as the wheat.

Beetroot Seeds
Occasionally when digging up beetroots, some of them will randomly break and produce Beetroot Seeds.

Chorus Fruit
To get the Chorus Fruit, you need to get to the End biome and go to the End City. The Chorus Tree will look similar to a cactus but will be purple in color. Break the tree and collect the fruit.

Pumpkins
Pumpkins are most commonly found in the Mountain and Plan biomes. Locate the bulging orange plant and dig it up.

Melon Slices
Go to the Jungle biome, locate a Melon (green cube structure), and break it. Then, pick up the Melon slices that spread out.

Red Mushrooms
Red Mushrooms will often be found in shaded places; they can be of various sizes, from very small to large room sizes.

Locate the Red Mushroom and break it.

Brown Mushrooms
Similar to Red Mushrooms, Brown Mushrooms will be found in shaded areas and will also vary in size. The gathering method is the same as well, which includes breaking the Mushroom until a Brown Mushroom drops.

Glow Berries
Glow Berries can be acquired by breaking the Glow Berries found in the Lush Caves biome. Upon breaking them, they will drop on the ground, and you’ll be able to collect them.

Extra Tips
Now that you have an idea on how to gather all the plants in Minecraft, consider upgrading them by cooking/smelting them either using a Furnace or, even better, by using a Smoker.

If you don’t know how to create a smoker, check out this Smoker Minecraft guide, it should help you cook food twice as fast as a Furnace.
