SAN ANTONIO, TX.- Artpace San Antonio announced that in honor of Artpace’s 25 Anniversary, Janet Lennie Flohr, collector, and friend of Artpace’s late founder Linda Pace and an Artpace board member for 15 years, has donated 65 works by 27 artists from Hare & Hound Press’s collection in support of Artpace’s mission. Since 1997, Hare & Hound Press has worked with over 35 Artpace artists, including Wangechi Mutu, Isaac Julien, Vincent Valdez, Arturo Herrera, and Anne Collier, to name a few. Founded by Janet Lennie Flohr and Master Printer Gary Nichols, Hare & Hound has become renowned for its expertise in printmaking and a model for the creation of prints and multiples by artists.

This gift represents over two decades of collaboration between Artpace’s resident artists and Hare & Hound Press. Janet’s wish for the Gift of Collaboration is for the artwork be sold with proceeds seeding the endowment for Artpace’s International Artist-in-Residence program. Artpace’s Board of Directors extends their deepest gratitude to Janet for this transformative gift, which will lead Artpace into the future and advance Linda Pace’s vision of providing artists with a creative laboratory to produce new art.

“The residency at Artpace was a one of the special kinds and rare treasures for artists. A very productive and concentrated time with wonderful support of a dedicated team,” said artist Rosa Barba.

For the past 25 years, Artpace has welcomed over 260 groundbreaking artists to live, work, and exhibit in its space. The International Artist-in-Residence program’s 25th anniversary coincides with the approaching sunset of a 20-year funding commitment from Artpace founder, artist, collector, and philanthropist Linda Pace, who envisioned a place where artists would be given the freedom to experiment and express their own voice. Artpace is also pleased to announce the Artpace 25th Anniversary Benefit Auction and Art Sale to support its International Artist-in-Residence program. This two-part event includes an online benefit auction, live from September 18–28, 2021 exclusively via Sotheby’s website, and features artwork donated by Artpace alumni artists and works from Janet Flohr’s Gift of Collaboration. The event will also feature an art sale of the prints donated by Flohr and alumni artists, available directly through Artpace (online and in-person). The artwork included in the auction and art sale will be on view at Artpace from September 16–19, 2021. Guests are invited to RSVP to the public reception on Thursday, September 16 from 6–8pm.

“In 1995, Artpace was conceived as a place for artists to realize new and innovative work. Our resident artists are bringing the world to San Antonio so our community can engage with the artists and their artwork. The proceeds from this auction and art sale will ensure that we can continue Linda’s vision of being a laboratory of dreams that supports artists and contemporary art,” said Director Riley Robinson.
