"Lounging" By Romero Britto. Acrylic Drawing on Canvas 101.60 cm x 76.20 cm 2005 Displayed at Galerie Ficher Rohr, Basel.

BASEL, SWITZERLAND.- (PRWEB) Romero Britto will soon arrive in Basel to open the first exhibition at Galerie Ficher Rohr. Britto is eager to unveil the 20 original paintings that he created specifically for the opening. The large scale and intricately detailed paintings will bring Romero Britto to the next level; themes include nude studies, landscape renderings and a new abstract design with minimal color aspects. “I am so excited and thrilled to have been asked to open Galerie Ficher Rohr with my work and I look forward to the journey,” says Romero Britto. The opening reception will be held at 7 PM on June 16, 2005 at Galerie Ficher Rohr located at Schertlingasse, 4, CH-4051.

Britto will not only host an exhibition during his tour of Basel, he will also unveil an aluminum sculpture created especially for the Basel Children’s Hospital. After hearing about the hospital and its founder, Miss Anna Elisabeth Burckhardt-Vischer’s mission to enrich the lives of the children it treats, Britto felt that a colorful uplifting sculpture at the entrance of the hospital would raise the hopes and improve the day to day of the children. “Azul,” an aluminum sculpture six and half feet tall depicts a happy and playful puppy dog. On June 14, 2005 the sculpture will be unveiled before Mr. C. Conti (Basel Government Official), Dr. Konrad Widmer (Chairman of UKBB), Rita Ficher (Founder of Galerie Ficher Rohr) and many of the children currently at the hospital. Romero Britto will also spend the remainder of the afternoon painting and interacting with the child patients.

Lastly, Rita Fisher will make a Britto donation to Foundation Beyeler. Britto’s, 60” x 90” acrylic on canvas titled “Education And Environment” will be gifted to the foundation. The piece holds significant value to Romero Britto, as it was one of the original six paintings created for the United Nations Commemorative Celebration of Education Stamp collection. The postage stamps were available for sale from the UN offices in New York, Geneva, Switzerland and Vienna, Austria, which now display an original painting at each location. The Foundation Beyeler was officially inaugurated in Riehen on the outskirts of Basel on 18 October 1997, providing Hildy and Ernst Beyeler’s remarkable art collection with a publicly accessible home. The Foundation Beyeler exhibits over 200 artists and owes its unique attractiveness to its combination of a superb modern art collection and a fascinating architectural and natural setting, as well as to temporary exhibitions on the highest international level that offer visitors new insights not only into 20th-century art but also into the latest developments in contemporary art. Britto is happy to be part of this unique and special art collection.

About Romero Britto - Britto’s work has been gaining international recognition since his first Absolut Art Campaign in 1989 and he continues to excel in the art community. Through his vibrant colors, playful themes and hard-edged compositions, Romero Britto captures the attention of both youthful spirits and educated art collectors. Easily recognized, Britto’s work is unmistakable bold, modern and colorful. His style combines the mass cultural references of Pop Art with the intricate compositional qualities of cubism. Most distinctive is the incorporation of his Britto signature as a design element. From the age of 8, it was apparent that Romero has a natural inclination to visually express himself. Britto exhibits his work in over 150 galleries including his own gallery on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach, Florida and São Paulo, Brazil.
