Victorian Visionary: The Art of Elliott Daingerfield |
LAUREL, MS.- The Lauren Rogers Museum of Art presents Victorian Visionary: The Art of Elliott Daingerfield, on view June 16 - August 28, 2005. Elliott Daingerfield (1859-1932) was one of the best known and most respected artists a century ago and certainly at the height of his career one of the most recognized Southern American painters. Carefully rendered and alive with color, his post-Impressionist paintings contain a mystic sense of the American landscape. Daingerfield's vivid, beautifully painted, symbolic landscapes are evocative, drawing the viewer into a world of monumental forms and smoky, turbulent light. This exhibit of eighty-five paintings and works on paper was organized by the Morris Museum of Art, Augusta, Georgia.
