NEW YORK, NY.- The Garment District Alliance announced the latest in its ongoing series of public art exhibits, showcasing a large scale photograph printed on fabric titled Far Side of the Moon, captured by New York-based photographer Hyewon Park.

Located in a street-level window on 215 W 38th Street, the free exhibit is accessible to the public through January 7, 2022. Far Side of the Moon is part of the Garment District Space for Public Art program, which showcases artists in unusual locations throughout the year and over 16 years has produced more than 200 installations, exhibits and performances.

“We are proud to welcome Hyewon and her eye-opening photography to the Garment District as part of our series of public art exhibitions,” said Barbara A. Blair, president of the Garment District Alliance. “Hyewon’s photographs are wonderful, and inspire individuals to expand their horizons and gain new perspectives. We encourage all to visit the exhibition this winter and take in her astonishing vision!”

Through her work, Park compares perspectives to viewing the moon from Earth; individuals see one side of the moon, just as they face others and see one perspective of them. Park describes a camera that is filled with darkness, similar to the endless and empty expanse of the universe. It receives light through a telephoto lens, shining like the moon, and the photograph then reveals the subject in the same way that the moon would be revealed if it were observed from its far side, the face of an unknown world. The photographs in the Far Side of the Moon series encourage viewers to adjust their perspective in order to witness the moments when the ordinary becomes extraordinary. Additional works from this series will be on display at the Kenektid X Gallery, located in the Garment District at 1026 Sixth Avenue, Suite 201, from December 10th to 18th.

Park is a photographer based in New York City. She has exhibited and published both solo and group works in the United States and Korea, including CWA 85th Annual Juried Exhibition at Slater Memorial Museum in Connecticut, AIPAD Art Fair, Photo LA at 19/21 Gallery in New York and Los Angeles, and Seoul Photo Art Fair in Korea. Park received the Bonnie Rychlak Award of ISE Cultural Foundation, NY, and is a part of the Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program of New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA).
