MADRID.- ARCOmadrid, Spain's international contemporary art fair organised by IFEMA MADRID, returns in February 2022 to celebrate its 40 (+1) Anniversary. Aiming to bring the past and present together through the participating galleries and their long-standing relationship with both artists and collectors.

Following the celebration in 2021 of an edition that sought to re-activate the art market, ARCOmadrid 2022 will return to celebrate the coming together of a selection of the key names in the global art world along with top tier international galleries. Additionally, galleries that have a well-established relationship with ARCOmadrid throughout its long history, have been invited to participate in the fair’s commemorative section, ARCO 40 (+1) Anniversary. A programme made up of around 20 galleries selected by María Inés Rodríguez, Francesco Stocchi and Sergio Rubira.

This anniversary ‘tribute’ to the fair will take place alongside the General Programme which will see 150 galleries selected by the Organising Committee, as well as the participants in the curated sections. ARCOmadrid will continue its forward-thinking Opening section dedicated to young galleries (with less than seven years’ experience) providing an insight into the up-and-coming international gallery scene with 15 galleries invited by curators Övül Ö. Durmusoglu and Julia Morandeira.

Additionally, the fair’s latest section entitled Never the Same: Latin American Art will explore new forms of collaboration between artists and galleries. It will comprise of a selection of Latin American artists from 10 international galleries which, curated by Mariano Mayer and Manuela Moscoso, will help strengthen the fair’s Latin American positioning.

Continuing the initiative inaugurated in the last edition, this year’sArtist Projects section will once again be dedicated exclusively to female artists.

ARCOmadrid 2022 will also continue to host art publications in the Arts Libris section, aimed at an initiation in collecting. Various presentations of new publications in the Arts Libris Speaker´s Corner will compliment this.

The well-established ARCOmadrid Forum will provide a space for investigating the present and future of contemporary art under the guidance of curators and professionals.

Furthermore, the Professional Meetings has evolved into a new project, Office: Open for Discussion, that will draw artworld professionals who are of interest to the exhibiting galleries through private meetings and will continue to promote the fair as a driver of discussion on the discourse of contemporary art.

The different initiatives set in motion by Fundación ARCO will complete this year’s edition of the fair. In addition to the guest collectors programme, it will once again distinguish the work of collectors through its ´A`Awards and other initiatives aimed at the promotion of collecting.
