ROCKLAND, MAINE.-The Farnsworth Art Museum presents Maine Women--Living on the Land: A Photographic Installation by Lauren Shaw, on view through November 27, 2005. This photographic installation by photographer Lauren Shaw celebrates the lives and environments of ten Maine women who have lived most of their lives in close harmony with the land. Collectively, these ten remarkable women embrace a wide cultural, generational and geographic range, but all share a strong tradition of stewardship, hard work and community. Their stories are told through Ms.Shaw's photography including still protraits, landscapes, phototmontages and an interactive DVD. An essay by Lucy Lippard, author of Lure the Local, among many other publications, accompanies the show. Generous support for this exhibition provided by Wick and Alice Skinner and many individual contributors.
