JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI.-The Mississippi Museum of Art presents Mirror, Mirror: Portraits and Self-Portraits, on view through October 9, 2005. The traditions of portraiture and self-portraiture have been fundamental to the work of numerous artists throughout history, while other artists have from time to time explored the human form in their work. Mirror, Mirror juxtaposes works from the MMAs Permanent Collection, created by artists working at different times and with diverse materials. Ranging from classical portraits in oil to graphite sketches on paper to experiments with photographic imagery, the works which comprise this exhibition offer a panoramic view of the genre.
Among the wide range of artists whose work is included in Mirror, Mirror are Mary Cassatt, G. Ruger Donoho, William Eggleston, Robert Henri, William Hollingsworth, Dean Mitchell, Mary Sims, Thomas Sully, Andy Warhol, and Karl Wolfe.
