Anthony Grant Rejoins Sotheby's

NEW YORK.-Sotheby's announced today that former Sotheby's Contemporary Art expert Anthony Grant would be rejoining Sotheby's later this month as Senior Vice President and International Senior Specialist in Contemporary Art. Mr. Grant left Sotheby's ten years ago to become a Director of Pace Gallery, and in 1998 he founded Grant Selwyn Fine Art in Manhattan, together with Los Angeles dealer Marc Selwyn. In 2003 Mr. Grant formed his own gallery, Anthony Grant Inc.

Tobias Meyer, Sotheby's Worldwide Head of Contemporary Art said: "We are delighted to welcome back one of the most seasoned experts in the field of Contemporary Art. Anthony combines a great eye for Contemporary Art with a vast network of contacts in the collecting community, where he has earned the trust of a loyal following. His extensive experience as both a Sotheby's expert and a dealer will add immeasurably to our worldwide Contemporary Art team."

Mr. Grant commented: "Over these past ten years I have been privileged to work directly with a number of great Contemporary artists and Contemporary Art collectors, and that experience and those relationships have been invaluable. It has been a period of great change and development for the field of Contemporary Art and I am looking forward to bringing that different perspective and my experience back to Sotheby's, which has a very special culture and an atmosphere that I have frankly missed."

Cheyenne Westphal, Sotheby's Head of Contemporary Art in Europe said, "I very much look forward to working again with a colleague whose professionalism and knowledge of art and the art market I have always respected. Anthony's skills, contacts and knowledge will add great strength to our international team."

Mr. Grant started his career at Sotheby's as an intern after graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1979. Following a period in the Print Department and later the Latin American Art Department, he joined the Contemporary Art Department in 1983 and became head in 1993. In 1995 he joined Pace/Wildenstein Gallery as a director where he was involved in the sales and exhibitions of pre-eminent artists such as Agnes Martin, John Chamberlain, Chuck Close, Donald Judd, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, Sol Lewitt, Robert Ryman, and Kiki Smith to name a few. In 1998 he established Grant Selwyn Fine Art, a bi-coastal gallery specializing in the sale of many of the artists previously mentioned and also including Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol, Brice Marden and Ellsworth Kelly among others. Later, under his own name, Anthony continued to excel in the sale of Post-War Abstract Art, Minimalism and Conceptual Art and Pop Art.
