Tazro Niscino Exhibition Opens in Ghent |

GHENT, BELGIUM.-Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst presents Tazro Niscino, on view through October 9, 2005. The Japanese artist Tasro Niscino has for many years been making constructions in which he brings various parts of reality into contact with each other. In so doing he aims for a combination of the living environment and patterns of living by introducing elements of the ‘outside’ world into the intimate sphere of an indoor space.
In Ghent he will encase the statue of Christ on St Anne’s Square by building a hotel room around the sculpture. This will comprise walls and a ceiling supported by scaffolding. The interior will be accessible to the public. In this construction the artist seeks out the various possible combinations of a variety of spheres. The intimate sphere of the bedroom with the publicness of the location and the public function of the religious sculpture have an alienating effect. This is the fourth in a series of varied artistic interventions that the museum is organising in the city centre. Each one is linked to an exhibition by the artist in the museum itself.
