Torrance Art Museum's fall exhibitions are a balance of political discord and artistic harmony
There has been a steady build in journalist articles reflecting upon the possibility of a second US Civil War. Regardless of the realities of this the fact remains that this concern is a part of the current zeitgeist. How have artists confronted this situation, now and in the past? This exhibition presents their investigations and outcomes.

TORRANCE, CA.- Torrance Art Museum presents the schedule for Fall 2022 exhibitions, featuring an examination of divisions stoked by the current American Political Climate and a decades long artist project that brings together its audience with a unique form of engagement.

TAM Main Gallery presents UnCivil War (an Election Special), curated by Max Presneill.

The events of January 6th, 2021, in Washington DC shocked the nation. The country has felt a divided space with a polarization and demonizing of opposition that has left many citizens in fear that a spark could ignite the fires of civil war. What will the current mid-term elections bring us? Increased enmity or a rejection of extremism? Will democracy win out or will armed insurrection begin? Or will the status quo continue to stoke the embers of discontent?

There has been a steady build in journalist articles reflecting upon the possibility of a second US Civil War. Regardless of the realities of this the fact remains that this concern is a part of the current zeitgeist. How have artists confronted this situation, now and in the past? This exhibition presents their investigations and outcomes.

TAM Gallery Two hosts 92 Events, a decade spanning project by artist Ken Friedman.

The show is based on the box of event scores that Fluxus impresario George Maciunas planned to publish. Selected scores from that collection traveled as a show in the 1970s in a set that now belongs to the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Friedman continued to develop the scores after Maciunas died in 1978. 92 Events presents a selection from the original scores to the most recent. Developed in 2019, the exhibition consists of 92 event scores printed out on plain 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper. Covering around 110 feet of running wall space, the exhibit allows each visitor to take a paper sheet of the project home with them, on the closing day, Saturday November 12th at 5pm.

Friedman is associated with the Fluxus group. Over the years, he has collaborated with artists such as Nam June Paik, Carolee Schneemann, George Maciunas, Mieko Shiomi, Yoko Ono, Dick Higgins, and Joseph Beuys, as well as with composers such as John Cage.
