BERLIN.- König Galerie announced that Zhanna Kadyrova has joined our program.

The Ukrainian artist Zhanna Kadyrova was born in 1981 in Brovary, Ukraine, and is a founding member of the artist group, R.E.P. (Revolution Experimental Space). She graduated from the Sculpture Department at the Taras Shevchenko State Art School in Kyiv, and among her many accolades are the Kazimir Malevich Artist Award, the Grand Prix of the Kyiv Sculpture Project, Future Generation Art Prize of the Pinchuk Art Centre.

Kadyrova is an artist whose works engage with the specificity of local contexts, most notably in her native Ukraine, where she continues to produce work and organise exhibitions under the immediate threat of the Russian invasion. Her projects range in scale and scope, from large public installations to stickers of rockets and cloud explosions that can be placed on windows anywhere in the world as a stark reminder of life under siege. In particular, Kadyrova engages with common building materials, such as concrete, plastic, glass, and stone, to highlight the architectural constructs that support and underpin the environments in which she acts.

In 2023, Kadyrova will be the subject of two major solo exhibitions, at the Kunstverein Hannover, and in her native Kyiv, at the Pinchuk Art Centre, the latter of which will function as a retrospective of the artist’s career to date. Kadyrova’s work has been featured at the Stavanger Art Museum; König Galerie, Berlin (both 2022); the Villa Pacchiani Centro Espositivo, Santa Croce sull'Arno, Pisa; the Fondazione MACC, Sardinia (both 2019); Бükü – Bureau for Cultural Translations, Leipzig (2016); and Kunstraum Innsbruck (2015). Her work has also been included in group presentations, including, the 58th Venice Biennale; the Kochi and Bangkok Biennials; the Museum Folkwang, Essen; Art Centre Silkeborg Bad, Silkeborg (all 2022); Marta Herford Museum, Herford (2021); the Shanghai International Sculpture Project JISP, Shanghai (2020); Kunsthalle Mulhouse (2020); and in the Ukrainian Pavilion for the 56th and 55th Venice Biennales (2015, 2013), among many others.

Zhanna Kadyrova lives and works in Brovary, Ukraine.
