ARCOmadrid returns for 42nd edition

MADRID.- ARCOmadrid 2023, organised by IFEMA MADRID will celebrate its 42nd edition from February 22nd to 26th, continuing to explore past, present and future practices. The sector’s trust and commitment to the fair is reflected in the art world’s eagerness to continue to participate in its’ evolving programme, as well as attracting new international galleries that reinforce ARCO’s role as a pre-eminent hub for artist visibility. A total of 214 galleries from 37 countries will transform Madrid into an international contemporary art capital in February, presenting the highest quality of works across all media, with the Mediterranean region at the heart of this year’s programme.

The main axis of the fair - the General Programme will be made up of galleries selected by the Organising Committee, with around 30 participating for the first time, (or returning to join the programme after several years), including Capitain Petzel, Contemporary Fine Arts, David Zwirner, Mendes Wood DM, Nicolai Wallner, Rüdiger Schöttle, and Timothy Taylor. Galleries such as Mehdi Chouakri, Neugerriemschneider, Perrotin, Ruth Benzacar and Société, who have a longstanding history of participating at ARCOmadrid, are joining the fair once again, alongside Chantal Crousel; Elvira González, Giorgio Persano, Helga de Alvear, Jocelyn Wolff, Krinzinger, Lelong, Mai 36, Meyer Riegger, Nächst St. Stephan Rosemarie Schwarzwälder, Peter Kilchmann, ProjecteSD and Thaddaeus Ropac, among others.

Parallel to the exceptional art on show in the General Programme, ARCOmadrid will also have three curated sections. The first section will focus on the fair’s research theme for 2023 Mediterranean: A Round Sea, curated by Marina Fokidis, with curatorial consultation from Bouchra Khalili, Hila Peleg and Pedro G. Romero. This section aims to mobilise relationships, in an endeavour to share the strengths of this geographic area. The presence of 20 galleries from 13 countries will make it possible to delve deeper into works by artists such as Anna Boghiguian -KOW-, Iman Issa -Rodeo-, Jumana Manna - Hollybush Gardens-, Mohamed Bourouissa -Kamel Mennour-, Silvina Der Meguerditchian
-Kalfayan Galleries-, Stefania Strouza -A.Antonopoulou.Art-, Laia Estruch -Ehrhardt Flórez- and Hana Miletić -Lambda Lambda Lambda.

Opening by Allianz will return to once again provide a space for the discovery of new ideas at the fair. The selection by Julia Morandeira and Yina Jiménez Suriel will represent the fair’s belief in young talents with the participation of 17 emerging national galleries including Constitución, Foro.Space, HOA, Pequod Co., The Liminal and Zina.

In addition, Never the Same. Latin American Art will help strengthen our research into Latin American creation and its relationship with all the players present at the fair. Curated by Mariano Mayer and Manuela Moscoso, the section will be made up of a selection of artists from 11 galleries from Latin America including Jaqueline Martins, Max Mayer, Karen Huber, Crisis, Proyectos Ultravioleta and Hache.

These areas will be complemented by the well-established Forum, which will expand on the analysis of art from the Mediterranean region with a structure that reflects the multi- faceted art practices of the different countries from the Mediterranean, will bring us closer to the commitment and constant support of collectors from different backgrounds.
