DENVER.-As the Denver Art Museum moves closer toward the opening of its new building in the fall of 2006, the Museum is offering a unique exhibit about the construction of the Frederic C. Hamilton Building in Building Outside the Box: Creating the New Denver Art Museum. Building Outside the Box offers visitors a glimpse of the human element that has gone into making this extraordinary new building expansion a reality. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the expansion through the stories of those who have worked closely on the project including architects, engineers, builders and museum staff. Through hands-on activities, audio-visual displays, photographs and other materials from the project, visitors can become familiar with specific challenges and successes of the expansion process.

This interactive exhibition is divided into four areas that explore the expansion from conception to reality. Visitors also will have the opportunity to share their thoughts on the expansion process and their feelings about the new building. The exhibition will be available during normal Museum hours and is included with general Museum admission, which is free for children 12 and under and Museum members, $6 for seniors 65+, students 13 and older and college students with I.D., $8 for adults. General admission is free for Colorado residents every Saturday, thanks to the citizens who support the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD). Building Outside the Box will be on view until the new complex is ready to open in the fall of 2006.

In conjunction with the opening of Building Outside the Box on Saturday, October 15, the Museum is hosting Meet B.O.B, a free community event from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Meet B.O.B. will be an informative and family-friendly event that celebrates the opening day of the Museum’s new exhibition. Building Outside the Box invites visitors to learn about the expansion through the stories of those who have worked closely on the project – and Meet B.O.B. offers the chance to meet and talk to these intriguing people on-site. In addition to coloring and art-making activities for families, Meet B.O.B. will feature architecture and gallery tours, documentary films about the expansion. Visitors can also get a sneak peek at the construction going on in the existing North Building for the new Duncan Pavilion space.

The Museum has hosted two annual expansion-related celebrations since construction of the new building started; Meet B.O.B. is the third in this series of free public events.

Following are the Museum's events and exhibitions for October 2005. Unless noted otherwise, admission to the following programs is included with general Museum admission. General admission is free for Colorado residents every Saturday, thanks to citizens who support the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD).
