NEW YORK, NY.- The Winter Show announced for its 69th edition, an engaging suite of public programming and special events presented throughout the run of the fair. Open to the public from January 20-29, 2023, the fair returns to the Park Avenue Armory, presenting 68 exhibitors specializing in fine and decorative arts from around the world. To enhance the experience, this year’s programming offers visitors and collectors special opportunities to deepen their knowledge and engage with current trends and topics, emphasizing the Show’s collaborative focus and educational approach. The panel discussions and talks are presented by experts in art, antiques, and design as well as leaders from museums and institutions, and are free with general admission.

Highlights of The Winter Show’s 2023 public programs include a panel discussion in partnership with Asia Week New York, “Partners in Art: The Spectacular Collections of the Havemeyer Family,” presented by Thomas Denenberg, the John Wilmerding Director, Shelburne Museum, Alice Cooney Frelinghuysen, Anthony W. and Lulu C. Wang Curator of American Decorative Arts, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Dessa Goddard, Chairman of Asia Week New York; “Collecting Outside the Line,” led by Ben Miller, host of Curious Objects, featuring Jesse Erickson, Curator of Printed Books and Bindings, The Morgan Library & Museum, and Jeremy Simien, Collector; “Reimagining the Museum with Maya Lin" a conversation with Museum of the Chinese in America President Nancy Yao and award-winning architect Maya Lin, and “The New Antiquarians: Young Collectors on Connoisseurship Today”, featuring Aaron Singh Aujla, Green River Project, Emily Adams Bode Aujla, Bode New York, and Michael Diaz-Griffith, Design Leadership Network.

A special pop-up fashion exhibition will also be on view, organized in partnership with East Side House, a two-time recipient of Bank of America’s Neighborhood Builders Award, and fellow recipient the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA), titled “How We Dressed in the Beautiful Country: Selections from the Museum of Chinese in America’s Fashion and Costume Collections”. MOCA has curated capsule exhibitions highlighting two of its key collections of fashion and costumes: the remarkable hand-tailored qipaos of Aileen Pei, step-mother of I.M. Pei, who lived through historic epochs in early 20th century China before settling with her family in New York in the 1940s, and the dramatically ornate opera gowns from the Chinese Musical and Theatrical Association, an organization that preserved Cantonese opera in New York’s Chinatown beginning in the 1930s. Aileen Pei’s dresses reflect the spirit of creativity, experimentation and a cosmopolitanism that made 1930s Shanghai a bustling international fashion capital. She brought her collection of qipaos and sense of style to New York after fleeing war-ravaged China in the early 1940s.

The Winter Show’s marquee benefit events for East Side House Settlement are the Opening Night Party on January 19 and Young Collectors Night on January 26. As cornerstone events of the fair and highlights of New York’s social calendar, these evenings attract collectors, philanthropists, and art and design aficionados and provide special opportunities to peruse the offerings of the Show’s exhibitors. All net proceeds from ticket sales support East Side House Settlement, the community-based organization serving the Bronx and northern Manhattan.

Other highlights include several ticketed programs and presentations, including “The Hunt for and Joy of Living with Art, Antiques, and Objects” on January 21 with Mitch Owens, American Editor of The World of Interiors, and Suzanne Tucker, acclaimed Interior Designer; and “Cross Cultural Collecting” on January 24 with Martin Levy, H. Blairman & Sons, Lark Mason, auctioneer, appraiser and Antiques Roadshow expert, and Gemma Sudlow, Managing Director New York Region, Hindman Auctions.

The Show also hosts the annual Connoisseurs Night on January 27th, an after-hours evening of booth talks, wine tastings, and conversations about connoisseurship and collecting with the world’s most prestigious art and antiques experts.

Continuing to celebrate its relationship with the design community, The Winter Show partners with leaders from the worlds of interior design and architecture, to lend their voices and expertise. The 2023 Design Council Co-Chairs Bunny Williams and Elizabeth Lawrence, Alex Papachristidis, and Stephen Sills, will panel the annual Design Luncheon on January 20, moderated by Wendy Goodman, Design Editor of New York Magazine. Additionally, to celebrate the fair’s return to the Park Avenue Armory, the Co-Chairs have designed special vignettes and installations shown in booths throughout the fair, inspired by and including objects from this year’s exhibitors. The three displays showcase the designers distinct curatorial and design visions.

To further engage the interior design community, The Winter Show has invited a group of emerging designers to join the leadership team as the inaugural Design Council Rising Stars. This year’s Rising Stars are Darren Jett, Delia Kenza, and Olivia Song.
