Winterthur Hosts Ceramics Conference 2006



WINTERTHUR, DE.-The Winterthur Ceramics Conference 2006, “Doing the Continental: European Ceramics as Design Inspirations,” will take place at Winterthur on April 21 and 22, 2006. Independent scholars and museum professionals from the United States and the United Kingdom will focus on Continental ceramics as an inspiration for ceramic design in America, England, and around the world. In addition to the lectures, participants may choose any two of 13 workshops, demonstrations, and special-subject tours presented by ceramics experts.

Guest speakers and workshop leaders include Julie Emerson, the Ruth J. Nutt Curator of Decorative Arts, Seattle Art Museum; Geoffrey A. Godden, researcher, author, and ceramics historian; Stephen Harrison, Curator of Decorative Art and Design, Cleveland Museum of Art; James R. Koterski, author and collector; Sebastian Kuhn, Continental Ceramics Specialist, Sotheby’s, London; Jeffery Munger, Associate Curator, Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts, Metropolitan Museum of Art; Deborah S. Skinner, Senior Lecturer, Museum & Heritage Management, Nottingham Trent University, England; and Beverly A. Straube, Senior Curator, Jamestown Rediscovery Project, APVA.

In addition, Winterthur staff members Catherine Cooney, National Endowment for the Arts Librarian; Ronald W. Fuchs II, Associate Curator of Ceramics for the Leo and Doris Hodroff Collection; Leslie B. Grigsby, Curator of Ceramics and Glass; Patricia A. Halfpenny, Director of Museum Collections; and Ann Wagner, Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts, will also inform participants.
