SEATTLE, WA.- Frederick Holmes And Company - Gallery of Modern & Contemporary Art, which opened on Occidental Mall in Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square on June 6, 2013 is celebrating it’s 10th anniversary in Seattle throughout June 2023. Owner Frederick Holmes - a forty year veteran of the art business - has been the Director of galleries in California, Hawaii, and Hong Kong; a national artist representative for several fine art publishers; a public speaker on the visual arts; and an art consultant with San Francisco’s prestigious Weinstein Gallery before relocating to Seattle in 2012 and opening his gallery a year later.

The Gallery’s programming and artists have evolved and changed since then. Along with its representation of regionally and nationally based emerging contemporary artists, it’s ongoing presentation of historic 20th Century Modern Art and the representation of the art historic estates of American Modernists, WALTER QUIRT (1902-1968) and OSCAR VAN YOUNG (1906-1991) has elevated it’s profile among national writers and art historians. “In Seattle’s present gallery scene one art dealer - Frederick R. Holmes - has stood out as the leader in introducing collectors to the paintings of early to mid 20th century Modern and Post War artists. His most important accomplishment at his eponymous gallery is the rediscovery of Walter Quirt [1902-1968].” - Peter H. Falk/ Art Historian, Author, & Chief Curator of Discoveries in American Art, https://discoveriesinamericanart.com/frederick-holmes/

The featured June exhibition is a contemporary artist who’s been part of the Gallery’s growth since 2014 - the critically acclaimed, New Jersey-based, MARYBETH ROTHMAN. “She is known for her fictional biographies and abstract narratives utilizing orphaned, vintage photographs, digital photographs, encaustic paint and mixed media.” Rothman’s vintage photo-collage portraits have been exhibited in numerous US galleries and several museum group exhibits. Her portrait, “SYRINGA”, was a semi-finalist in the Smithsonian Institution’s 2022 portrait competition and was installed in the museum’s Portrait Gallery for several months last year. Rothman’s work will also be exhibited in "Modigliani and the Modern Portrait" at the Nassau County Museum of Art on Long Island's "Gold Coast," July 22-November 5. In addition to Amadeo Modigliani, the exhibition features works by Pablo Picasso, Man Ray, Gaston Lachaise, Jacques Henri-Lartigue, Chana Orloff, Thomas Hart Benton, David Hockney, Rineke Dijkstra, and Eric Fischl. (Guest Curator for the exhibition is Dr. Kenneth Wayne.)

FH&Co has proudly been Rothman’s gallery representative since its 2013 founding and produced her first Seattle solo show in 2014 titled, “A CURIOUS COLLECTION OF STRANGERS”. Since being introduced nearly ten years ago her work has been enthusiastically embraced by Pacific Northwest collectors and many others from around the country.
