'Track changes: a handbook for art criticism'. Published by Paper Monument, Edited by Mira Dayal and Josephine Heston.

BROOKLYN, NY.- Paper Monument’s publication Track changes: a handbook for art criticism, edited by Mira Dayal and Josephine Heston is now available for purchase through n+1. This timely collection of essays by 25 art writers and editors is a rigorous and multifaceted guide to the practice of art criticism today—a mentor in book form.

ABOUT TRACK CHANGES:

Written by art critics for art critics, the book will be equally valuable for those entering the field as it is for those with established careers. It differs from many publications on art writing by foregrounding principles and intentions, with insights from diverse critics on the choices they make in their writing and why.

Case studies, conversational excerpts, manifestos, and reflections offer a collective response to a set of ongoing questions: How do critics and editors of color find entry points, guidance, and support in an art world that has long prioritized straight, white, male writers, artists, and readers? How do we decide which artists to uphold or critique, and how do we understand our impact? What agendas do writers and editors operate under? What makes an art-writing practice or an editorial process feminist?

Contributions come from Kemi Adeyemi, Elisa Wouk Almino, Andy Campbell, Erica Cardwell, Re’al Christian, Aruna D’Souza, Leslie Dick, Amy Fung, Merray Gerges, Annie Godfrey Larmon, Ariel Goldberg, Yves Jeffcoat, Dana Kopel, Yaniya Lee, Dessane Lopez Cassell, Jessica Lynne, Tausif Noor, Ashley Stull Meyers, Lindsay Preston Zappas, Kristina Kay Robinson, Jillian Steinhauer, Ana Tuazon, Monica Uszerowicz, Wendy Vogel, and Emily Watlington.
