Andrew Moore, Opera House, Irkutsk, 2003. 68,5 x 87,5 cm / 76,2 x 101,6 cm, C-Print, Edition 10. signed and editioned verso.

MUNICH, GERMANY.- Gallery f5,6 is proud to announce the first solo exhibition in Germany of the successful American photographer Andrew Moore. The exhibition features an extract of the series Russia and New York (USA). The large-sized works of Andrew Moore are documents and - at the same time -„portraits“ of Russia’s present and New York’s old theatres of 42nd Street. Moore’s works not only face the visible architecture, but also portrait the nuances of their inner life. Thereby, they capture the intersection of past, presence and an often wanted utopia – and so point out Moore’s steady interest in contemporary history.

Andrew Moore’s photographs tell the story of elapsed pomp and wealth. The past becomes the here and now, therefore also the present is observed. Nevertheless Moore denies to conserve and criticize, but highlights the chances change and progression offers. The photographs own a unique atmosphere and uncover man and time’s marks left behind. The silent places are revived, their stories nearly sensed. Ultimately, Moore changes our own view on daily life: it’s not the decadence that dominates our memories but the possibility to arise the New out of the Old.
