CLINTON, N.Y.-Hamilton College presents The Missing Story of Ourselves: Poverty and the Promise of Higher Education, on view through September 10, 2006. The Missing Story of Ourselves: Poverty and the Promise of Higher Education presents a complex and sensitive portrait of what it means to be poor in the United States and the transformative power of higher education. Fifty color photographs coupled with first person narratives provide accounts of the struggle, hard work and finally the celebration of growth and dignity that are experienced in the attainment of college degrees by poor student parents from Central New York and across the nation. The Missing Story of Ourselves, organized by the ACCESS Project at Hamilton College, is a traveling exhibition that aims to counter the dehumanizing stereotypes of underprivileged student parenthood through self-portraits.
