COLUMBUS, OH.- The Columbus Museum of Art presents the exhibit Uncommon Clothes: Photographic Inspiration through September 3. Organized by Charles Kleibacker, world renowned fashion designer and adjunct curator of design at the Columbus Museum of Art, Uncommon CLOTHES displays eighteen twentieth-century garments by designers Adrian, Balenciaga, Pierre Balmain, Bruyère, Pierre Cardin, Christian Dior, Fortuny, Galanos, Madame Grès, Kleibacker, Norman Norell, Jean Patou, Maggy Rouff, Ralph Rucci, Traina-Norell, and Isabel Toledo. Through the work of inspired photographers, such as Richard Avedon, these clothes have been featured in books, magazines, catalogues, newspapers, and brochures.

The exhibition ranges from the 1995 Christian Dior design that was worn in Avedon’s most famous Paris fashion photograph of model Dovima posed in front of two elephants, to the uncommon creativity unveiled in New York’s Isabel Toledo and Ralph Rucci’s designs, which bring Uncommon CLOTHES into the twenty-first century. Other garments featured include the two 1965 Pierre Balmains custom-made in Paris for actress Carroll Baker, which are in sharp contrast to the 1966 Pierre Cardin custom-made for Ogden Nash’s daughter Isabel Eberstadt. The 1958 voluminous wool coat and slim skirt by Traina-Norell contrasts with Norman Norell’s 1962 daytime skirt, blouse, stole, and belt.
