PURCHASE, N.Y.- The Neuberger Museum of Art presents The Collection of a Lifetime: 103 Artists From the Roy R. Neuberger Collection, on view through September 3, 2006. The Collection of a Lifetime celebrates the 103rd birthday of Roy R. Neuberger by delving deep into the permanent collection bearing his name and showcasing the work of 103 artists in the expansive first floor South and Theater Galleries. Shedding new light on the collection, the works on view will be grouped to reveal artistic influences, historical and formal cohesion and more than one example by several artists.

The exhibition includes curatorial dialogue with Roy R. Neuberger, providing new insight into his collecting process and exploring connections with certain artists as well as personal preferences and changing taste.

In addition to the major works for which the Museum is known, a focused selection of works by Milton Avery, a second painting by Edward Hopper, and a group of sensitively-drawn figural works are just a few examples that await visitors. Viewers will experience many drawings and smaller works, newly conserved pieces, and others that have returned home from travel.

This summer will see major renovation of the 2nd floor Stairway Gallery, dislocating the collection and allowing this rare opportunity to greatly expand the spectrum of works on view in the first floor galleries. Beginning in September, the Roy R. Neuberger Collection will return upstairs to a refurbished and reconfigured gallery space allowing for greater flexibility in the display of this important collection of art. Curated by Dede Young, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art and Jacqueline Shilkoff, Assistant Curator.
