Diana Levinson b. 1949, Silver Springs, Maryland.

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO.- The Butler Institute of American Art presents an exhibit of recent works of art made by Diana Levinson through September 3. The works in this exhibition include large scale paintings and works on paper by a respected New England artist. Levinson's work reflects the tradition of Abstract Expressionism and action painting established in the post war era through a dynamic use of color and vibrant brush strokes. A meet the artist reception (by invitation) is planned for Saturday, July 29.
Diana Levinson began her artistic career more than 25 years ago and views her years of painting as a journey toward self-discovery. The process through which she creates is an ongoing evolution unconcerned with origins and endings, but haunted instead by the beauty of change and progress.
Levinson's goal is to flood each painting with strength, risk and the power of her will. Her recent Black series employs bold strokes to compel viewers to flee the bonds of reason and enter the vast, energetic rhythms of self-transformation contained within her expressions.
