BRIDGEND, WALES.- Seren Books announced the publication of TRACE<
Trace is the only gallery in Britain devoted solely to time based art. In the first five years of its existence, it has hosted artists from around the world who have created significant performances and installations in direct response to the ethos of the gallery. In this time it has produced 40 installations/performances and presented 36 artists in external projects and exchanges (80 artists in total). In addition to being a space itself, Trace is also an initiator of projects in other locations and with artists’ organizations which are, as yet, not as developed in the field.

This lavishly illustrated book documents the Trace program, its energy, anger, humor and subtle inquisitions. Critic Heike Roms positions Trace in the context of performance art in Wales, while artist and theoretician Julie Bacon considers how time based art is able to transcend the standard models of Western Culture.

"I think of Trace as constant change ... The traces that are part of the fabric of our home and our lives. The meetings, encounters, exchanges. Friends passing through time and space. We might call it art or collision ... It allows for a certain shift; paying attention to the impermanence of things, things to quicken the heart." Andre Stitt.
